The Vienna Philharmonic is Europe’s best-selling gold coin and legal tender in Austria. It is struck by Münze Österreich in Vienna, a mint that has worked for more than eight hundred years. The coin was introduced in 1989 and has carried the same design ever since.
The obverse shows the great organ of the Golden Hall in Vienna’s Musikverein; the reverse shows the orchestra’s instruments — Vienna horn, bassoon, harp, violins and a cello. Thomas Pesendorfer designed both sides. The inscriptions are in German — the only major bullion coin not in English.
Fineness is 999.9 — 24 carat gold. The coin is recognised and liquid worldwide: any serious dealer from Frankfurt to Singapore will buy it back. That makes it a sound first purchase.
Weights and premium
We stock 1/25, 1/10, 1/4, 1/2 and 1 oz. Rule of thumb: the larger the coin, the lower the premium per gram. Smaller weights cost more per gram but buy flexibility: you can sell part of a holding instead of all of it.
Coins arrive exactly as the mint ships them, in capsule or blister, untouched. Condition is Bank Standard, uncirculated. Buying: the price is fixed the moment you order, against the live world market, and you then collect in Tallinn or we send it by insured courier.
