Since 1990 the reverse has carried a kangaroo and the coin has been called the Kangaroo \u2014 wholesalers still use both names.<\/p>\n<p>The kangaroo design changes every year, so the years are easy to tell apart. The obverse carries the British monarch&#8217;s profile \u2014 King Charles III on recent coins, Queen Elizabeth II on older ones. The coin is legal tender in Australia; the 1 oz carries a face value of 100 Australian dollars.<\/p>\n<p>Fineness is 999.9, 24 carat \u2014 this is pure gold. Pure gold is soft, so leave the coin in its capsule: a scratch takes nothing off the gold content, but it spoils the look.<\/p>\n<h2>Weights and premium<\/h2>\n<p>We stock the 1 oz coin \u2014 the most common bullion size. Its premium per gram is lower than on fractional coins, and gold dealers all over the world know the Kangaroo.<\/p>\n<p>We sell mixed years: the year depends on stock and cannot be chosen.
