It is the most common gold coin on the American market and well known in Europe too.

Unlike most modern bullion coins, the Eagle is 22 carat: 916.7 fine, with silver and copper added to the gold. That does not mean less gold. A 1 oz Eagle contains a full 31.1035 grams of pure gold — the coin is simply a little heavier and considerably harder. It scratches far less than a pure-gold coin does.

The obverse carries Augustus Saint-Gaudens’ Liberty, taken from the 1907 twenty-dollar piece. The reverse showed a family of eagles until 2021, and a portrait of an eagle’s head from then on.

Weights and premium

We stock 1/10, 1/4, 1/2 and 1 oz. Rule of thumb: larger weight, lower premium per gram. Smaller coins cost more per gram but buy you the flexibility to sell only part of a holding.

Coins come in mint packaging, in capsule or protective sleeve. Condition is Bank Standard, uncirculated. Buying: the price is fixed the moment you order, against the live world market, and you then collect in Tallinn or we send it by insured courier.

Purity

916.7 (22 carat); the 1 oz coin contains 31.1035 g of pure gold

Mint

United States Mint

Country

United States

Legal tender

Yes, with a US dollar face value

Condition

Bank Standard, uncirculated

Packaging

Mint capsule or protective sleeve

Year of issue

Struck since 1986.
